Due to changes the airlines have made recently regarding the shipping of live animals, we have been forced to change our policy for shipping puppies. We can no longer ship pups with Delta Airlines out of Great Falls as they are not accepting puppies on their early morning flights, which in effect, makes it impossible for us to get a pup to it’s destination. I haven’t checked with Alaskan/Horizon Airlines, but will be contacting them in the near future. However, they only provide services to cities west of Montana (Seattle, Portland, etc. ) and to Alaska.

Effective with our planned litters for 2019, we will no longer ship pups via Delta Airlines. Depending on whether Alaskan/Horizon has changed their policy as well, we may be forced to discontinue shipping puppies completely.

People might want to consider flying here to pick up their pup if driving here isn’t possible. A puppy can be brought into the cabin of the plane as long as it will fit under the seat in front of you (in a soft sided carrier). We’ve had people do this in the past. The cost is comparable to having a puppy shipped. It is currently approximately $675 to ship a puppy. Current air freight charges are $386, A shipping crate is $60, the Health Certificate is $30, and we would be forced to charge $200 to deliver a puppy to the airport as it would require an overnight stay in a motel (in Billings) plus our travel expenses. If anyone chooses to fly here to pick up their pup we would be more than happy to meet them in Great Falls with their puppy. Flying here also would provide a wonderful opportunity to spend a few days vacationing in Montana and then the puppy could be picked up when people are ready to fly home.

We have written Delta Airlines voicing our opposition to their change in policies regarding shipping puppies, but so far we’ve not received a reply.

Lizzie had 10 pups on Monday….so far so good….keeping our fingers crossed it stays that way! We have 2 liver/white males, 2 liver/white females, 3 black/white males, and 3 black/white females.

Sage: For those who have reserved a pup from Sage and Rocky, we are still waiting for her to come into heat. She was bred in April last year, so we’re hoping she comes into heat soon. As I’ve stated before, my experience is that heat cycles can vary quite a bit. Sage seems to be proving me right. πŸ™‚ I’ll let everyone know when she comes into heat.

May 6, 2017

For those who got a pup from Sage and Payne last year, Payne recently earned is FC and is now and FC/AFC and is qualified to run in both this years U.S. Open and U.S. Amateur National Championships.

April 21, 2017

We are accepting deposits for 2018. Our litters for this year are sold out, and we have already taken a couple deposits for next year. We tentatively plan to have three litters next year. If Mother Nature cooperates we will be breeding Zena, Sage, and Lizzie again next spring.

Our Girls: Dolly and Echo are retired and Feather is only 10 months old…

April 20, 2017

I palpated Lizzie the other day to determine if she was pregnant, and she definitely is. How many she is carrying is hard to say. She had 9 pups last year. If my math is correct, she should be due around May 24th.
March 22, 2017

Zena had her pups last night. She had 8 pups, but we’ve not done a count on males and females yet. I’ll post that later today. So far everything looks good.
March 22, 2017
Lizzie came into heat and has been bred. Assuming the breeding takes, we should have pups the last week in May.
March 6, 2017

Both Zena and Dolly are definitely pregnant. Barring any problems, Zena is due around March 15 and Dolly should be due around March 31. Also, Sage came into heat yesterday. We will be breeding her to Rocky when she is ready. Assuming we get her bred, we will post that here with the estimated due date. Lizzie has not come into heat yet, but should be coming in soon.
February 2, 2017

We have decided to breed Dolly to Sam. Dolly has been bred and assuming the breeding was successful, she will be due the end of March.

January 20, 2017

Our planned litters for this year are sold out. If we have a cancellation or if we have more pups than we have deposits for, we will post that here and on our facebook page. If you would like to be put on a waiting list in case of a cancellation, or if you would like to reserve a pup for 2018, please contact us…

January 20, 2017

Zena has been bred and assuming the breeding takes, we expect pups in Mid- March.

Sam’s sire, Duke, took first place recently earning his long awaited AFC. Sam’s grandsire, Quake, also earned his FC the same weekend. Congrats to Gary and Josh Riddle on their accomplishments with a couple of great dogs… Quake is on the left and Duke is on the right…

We decided to have Jim O’Shea of “Flush ‘Em High Kennels” do some training with Rocky. He spent about 6 weeks with Jim and we picked him up on Saturday. With my 3 litters this spring and summer as well as working with my 6 adult dogs and with my son’s busy work schedule, Rocky wasn’t getting the training he needed. Jim did a great job with Rocky. My son had done a great job with Rocky on his hup, recall, and retrieving but he needed work on overall control and handling. Jim put the polish on him. Jim gave Rocky an “A+”. Here are some photos with Jim going over what he had done with Rocky, explaining things to my son, Luke, etc. If anyone needs some help training their pup, give Jim a call. He trains all breeds and has trained dogs for over 30 years now. He has Flush ‘Em High Kennels in outside Glendive, Montana… It will be money well spent….

Lizzie had her pups last night. A quick count shows 5 females and 4 males, but I’ll confirm that later today. So far Lizzie and the pups are doing well.

May 10, 2016

Sage’s pregnancy has been confirmed. I palpated her yesterday and she’s definitely PG…

April 20, 2016

Breeding Plans for Spring 2016

We are tentatively planning to breed Sage and Lizzie in the spring of 2016.. We are now accepting reservations on these planned litters. We may also breed Zena depending on the demand for pups. These are all top of the line Springers from exceptional field lines.. Please see their pages for pedigrees, more photos, etc…

June 2, 2015

Zena and Dolly are not pregnant, unfortunately… We had an ultrasound done on both dogs yesterday and there were no pups visible. We will be getting Zena tested to see what the problem is. Dolly will be retired from breeding. We do not plan to have pups again until the spring of 2016. We will probably be breeding Sage and Lizzie Belle then.

May 5, 2015

Zena has been bred to Copper Creek Ty and assuming the breeding was successful, pups should be due around July 4th.

Dolly was also bred. We bred Dolly to Copper Creek Ty instead of Charlie as Charlie was unable to “perform”….old age appears to have taken it’s course.. Ty is a fantastic dog and we are excited to be able to breed Zena and Dolly to him. Again, assuming the breeding was successful, we expect Dolly to whelp around July 7th.

April 29, 2015

Dolly came into heat yesterday. We hope to get her bred when she’s ready (to Charlie). We’ll be updating things here as things progress…

April 22, 2015

Zena finally came into heat. We hope to get her bred within the next 10 days or so…. We’ll be updating what transpires here and will post when she is bred, when we are sure the breeding was successful, etc. Stand by! πŸ™‚

March 23, 2015

For those of you who have reserved pups this year, we’re still waiting for Dolly and Zena to come into heat.. Mother Nature appears to be taking her own sweet time..

March 2, 2015

I recently added pages for our two newest up and coming pups, “Lizzie Belle” and “Sage”. Oddly enough, both pups were born the same day, April 16, 2014 but one came from Gary Wilson’s Sunrise kennels and Paul Hansen’s Goshen Kennels. Both pups are extremely well bred. I’ve held off putting up a page for these pups until I had an idea on what their potential was and I wanted to make sure they were physically sound. Both have clear eyes and hips. We had CERF exams done on them in December and we had their hips evaluated (Pennhip) in February. Both pups have perfect hips. Both pups are good looking, well built pups. Both are good size with good legs, they move well, etc.. Training is coming along very well. We’re working on polishing their obedience right now. I’m particularly pleased with their retrieving.. Very quick pick up and return with very nice delivery to hand. Of course the proof will be when we actually hunt this fall. I didn’t hunt them last fall as they were still quite young and I didn’t feel they were ready. Like all of my dogs, I’m out with them every day. They’ve had a lot of exposure to the field and birds. Assuming all goes well with their first hunting season, we hope to breed them sometime in either 2016 or 2017. Take a look at their pages for photos, pedigrees, etc.. They still have a lot of puppy in them!!!!

Lizzie Belle and Sage - Feb 2015 023

February 25, 2015

We are not accepting any more deposits on our planned litters for 2015 at this time. Our planned litters are sold out..

February 19, 2015

We had a cancellation on Dolly’s planned litter and will take one more deposit.. Pups are $800 and a $200 deposit will reserve a pup. A late springer/early summer litter is expected..

May 22, 2014

Dolly has been bred and is due around June 25, 2014. We checked her for fetuses this week and she is pregnant.
January 27, 2014

The price for one of our pups will increase to $800 effective in 2015. We will honor the previous price of $750 for anyone we have received a deposit from prior to today. Rising cost of dog food, vet bills, etc. has forced us to raise our price.

January 23, 2014

Echo is now retired from breeding… We kept a liver/white female from her last litter we hope to breed at some point in the future (assuming she passes all of her clearances and we determine she is of breeding quality). We’ve named the pup “Zena” and will be starting a page on her showing her development, etc.

Dolly is the only female we have for breeding right now. Her planned litter for 2014 is sold out. We currently have 5 reservations for when we breed her in 2015.

We also have a new male pup, “Buckshot”, we bought a few months back from David Arment in New Jersey. Buckshot was born on August 25, 2013 so he’s still only 5 months old. Buckshot is out of NAFC/FC/AFC/CFC Pheasant Feather’s Black Powder, JH and Dylan’s Abbey Ale SH (Sunrise Breeding). Charlie is starting to get up there in years, so we decided it was time to find a dog to take over his duties. Again, this all hinges on Buckshot passing his clearances and determining if he is of breeding qualit, of course. We will be starting a page for Buckshot soon also…

September 30, 2013

We had considering retiring from breeding Springers, but have decided to continue. We will be adding a couple of new pups to our breeding program and will continue to have one and possibly two litters per year. Thanks to all of the people who encouraged us to continue breeding these fine dogs!!!

February 28, 2013

Dolly had her pups yesterday. We have 11 pups.. 8 males and 3 females, assuming they all survive. We may have a couple of males available from this litter. I will not know until I contact people who have reserved pups…

February 10, 2013

Dolly is definitely pregnant and is starting to show…looks like she’ll have another good size litter.

December 27, 2012

Dolly has been bred to Charlie. Pups are Due March 1, 2013 and will be ready to go around the end of April. Pups are $750 each. Expecting black/white and liver/white in this litter.
July 17, 2012

We have made the decision to no longer breed Chesapeake Bay Retrievers. Our current dogs are getting up in years. Thanks to all we have placed pups with over the years.

July 6, 2012

Lil had her pups yesterday…. She had 8… 4 black/white males, 3 liver/white males, and 1 black/white female.

July 3, 2012

Dolly had her pups yesterday.. We have 13 pups! Preliminary count shows 5 black/white females, 6 liver/white males, and 2 black/white males. So far Mom and all of the pups look ok. We have no runts. All are approximately the same size. I’ll be supplementing the feeding…. This is the largest litter we’ve ever had… 13 is a lot of pup for one mother to feed. Although the pups look good right now and all are doing well, I’ve done this long enough to know that anything can happen so whether we have 13 when they are ready to go to their new homes is anyone’s guess.

May 3, 2012.

Dolly was bred to Charlie yesterday (May 2). Assuming the breeding takes, we should have pups due around July 4th.

Lil also came into heat but hasn’t been bred yet.

December 6, 2011

Echo has been bred to Charlie (Springers). Pups are due around February 5, 2011. Will be ready to go late March/Early April. We are now accepting deposits on this litter.

January 4, 2011

Tiki, (Chesapeake Bay Retriever) has been bred and is due to have pup around March 1, 2011. We are now accepting deposits on this litter.

December 24, 2010

Dolly has been bred to Charlie. Pup should be due to arrive around February 20, 2011.

November 17, 2010

We lost our old “Tess” last night. She had been going downhill for a few weeks and passed away peacefully here at home last night. She was a great dog. I got her from Tom Meyers (Wisconsin) as a pup. She was out of NFC Denalisunflo’s Ring and NAFC Kane’s Bluff Creek Annie. She was mother to our “Lil”. She’ll be missed…

Echo had her pups on October 13th. We have 4 females and 2 males. All are sold.

We lost our old dog, “Tonka” to cancer in May. She was the reason I breed Chessies today. She sold me on the breed. Thanks to Alan from the Browndog Forum for creating this colage for me. Tonka was a credit to the breed in every respect.

New Kennel Building Nearing Completion

Our new kennel building is getting closer to being finished. We started on it last summer (2008). We still need to do the wiring, put up the chain link for the runs, build the doghouses, etc. but we should have a nice building with indoor/outdoor runs by the end of the summer.

  1. The collage looks great, I understand so well about losing a dog to cancer after losing my male in february. Sorry for your loss. Thanks,

  2. Oh Tim –

I’m sorry to hear that you lost your dear pup. Her son Moose is still going strong and is a very lovable boy. He’s quite a character and we love him to bits.

Take care and thank you again for delivering us such a great pup!

  3. Tim my good friend. It was so good to catch up with you, and so sad to hear about Tonka. When you say she is the reason you breed Chesapeakes, I can deeply relate. You could not ask for a kinder, or more loyal girl. Her and Beau produced some of the nicest pups around, and as he is in the twilight of his life, the Chessie world will be well represented by their offspring. I know Tonks is jumping over a fence with a bird in her mouth as I write this. She will be missed. Take care, Gordy.

  4. Tim I’m hoping to hear that Dolly came in heat.We hd a great hunt at Ft. Benton.I will have my hip replacement Dec.30.Should be ready to go by march.Jim McCreedy said he was sorry to have missed you. Jon Beernink
